Battleground WWII Games at Historicon 2014

Here are a couple shots from the Battleground games I hosted at Historicon 2014.  Unfortunately, I usually get too caught up in the games and forget to take pictures.  The three linked scenarios were from the Skirmish Campaign series and focused on the fighting around Haut Vents (near St Lo) July 1944.  All three games were played on the same table.  Destroyed vehicles remained on the table from game to game.

A view from the German defenders point of view from a top Haut Vents.

A view from the attacking American point of view.

The three linked scenarios represented the initial American attack, the German counter-attack, and the American counter-counter-attack.

A recon element enters the fray and runs into a German Flakvierling

A panzerfaust in ambush takes out an American halftrack and half of the squad it was carrying.
During the second scenario, elements of Panzer Lehr push forward to blunt the American attack.

 American infantry deploys.

In the third scenario, American armor drives hard towards the objective......

.....and runs into the awaiting German armor.

Supporting American artillery scatters wildly off target and hits friendly units as well as the enemy.

The final American assault on the objective at the summit of Haut Vents.

Overall a great series of games that were enjoyed by both sides.  But running three games back to back on the same day (9 am - 11 pm) while rewarding was really exhausting.

Just a Test

Hello, just adding my blog to the HAWKs family.

Historicon 2008

Well Historicon 2008 has been history for almost a month and I am finally getting around to posting some of the pictures from the four games I hosted. The first game was "Action at St. Manvieu". Operation Epsom June 26th 1944 - The 6 Royal Scots Fusiliers supported by tanks from B Squadron 9 Royal Tank Regment are ordered to take the village of St. Manvieu.

The Scottish view of the area
The Geman view of the area
The farm house complex
Churchhills attack through the bocage with only one getting bogged dwn and throwing a track
Some accurate German artillery fire results in another thrown track
Here is the ending positions of the Scottish attack....and also the start of the follow-on scenario "Counterattack at St Manvieu". It is June 26th 1944 and the 6 Royal Scots Fusiliers have taken the village of St. Manvieu. The 12th SS want it back but the Scots are not inclined to agree.

The Scottish player awaits the German counterattack.
As usual, once the games start, I found that I did not have time to take many photos of the ensuring action. In both games, the Scottish force came out victorious (mirroring actual events).
Will get more photos posted later.

Can you have too many tanks?

While sorting through all my tanks for a Battleground WWII game for Cold Wars 08, I decided to lay them out on a table to see what I actually had.....I was a bit surprised as I did not realize how many tanks I had acquired over the years.
These are a mix of Solido, Bandai, Tamiya, Corgi, Battlehonors, and a couple of AFAD castings and probably a few more.

Cold Wars 2008

Well I have returned from Cold Wars 2008. I hosted two Battleground WWII games and was one of 8 gamemasters for the HAWKS Pirate-a-ganza game - 8 tables and 30+ gamers using the G.A.S.L.I.G.H.T. Rules. Here are a few pictures of the action:

The set-up for A Confused Retreat.....once we started playing I forgot to take anymore pictures.
The Pirate-a-ganza
Kashpor Station in action again, this time with pirates being chased by the British East Asia Company's forces.

Kashpor Station by moonlight (actually a power outage at the Lancaster Host that threatened to cancel the game...luckily power was restored and a good time was had by all).

Kashpor Station - Somewhere in Southeast Asia

For Historicon 2007, the HAWKS gaming group decided to put on multi-table, 40 player, Pulp game using To Be Continued by GASLIGHT rules. Since I had already made some building for my Burma WWII game, I volunteered to run the Kashpor Station scenario. It involved the heroes running through the station to find and recover three valuable artifacts before they were sold to a Chinese collector. Here are a few shots of the game:

Burma Project

Well, since I haven't really gotten anything new done at the moment, thought I'd post some of pictures of old projects.
The Japanese troops are ready to attack.

And the rest of the Japanese troops...

The troops in their storage tray.

And some action shots from Historicon 2007:

The Japanese commander keeps watch for the approaching British/Indian force near Imphal, Burma.

Japanese forces enter a small village in Burma.

Japanese forces have spotted the British forces and prepare to attack.

I'll get some more pictures posted soon.

Enjoy!
